I am not one to post recipes, but I couldn't resist on this one. We tried this last night and it was delicious! For spicy lovers, these only have a slight kick. The heat of the recipe really depends on the Buffalo wing sauce you choose to use. I used Texas Pete Buffalo Wing Sauce and it gave it a great flavor with a little kick. Another change we made is we omitted the celery. Enjoy!
Sloppy Joes
2 lb ground beef
1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
6 stalks celery, thinly sliced (3 cups)
1 can (8 oz) Tomato Sauce
1 can (6 oz) Tomato Paste
1/2 cup Buffalo Wing sauce (Texas Pete)
1 tablespoon vinegar
2 teaspoons chili powder
18 hamburger buns, split, toasted
Blue Cheese Sauce
1 container (8oz) sour cream
2/3 cup crumbled blue cheese
2 teaspoons Buffalo wing sauce
1. Brown beef and onion in skillet until done. Drain. Spoon beef mixture into slow cooker. Add remaining sloppy joe ingredients except buns. Stir well.
2. Cover; cook on Low heat setting for 3 to 4 hours.
3. In small bowl, mix sauce ingredients. To serve, spoon 1/3 cup sloppy joe mixture on bottom half of each bun. Spoon 1 tablespoon sauce on top half of each bun; place over meat.
If you are "watching your waist line" as most of us are....
We used low fat beef and fat free sour cream. It turned out great!
If you would like a milder flavor, substitute 1/4 cup ketchup for 1/4 cup of the Buffalo wing sauce in the sloppy Joe mixture. The recipe (before the low fat substitutions) says each sandwich is 12 grams of fat and 270 calories. Not bad...especially after you use low fat beef and fat free sour cream!!!
This recipe makes a TON, so be prepared for leftovers, cut the recipe in half, or invite guests. This re-heats very well, so we've been having leftovers this week.
